If you’re looking for a premium compact sedan like a BMW 3 Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Audi A4, or Lexus IS, now might be the time to upgrade to something bigger, more luxurious, and more electric. The Lucid Air Pure is larger than those cars and typically more expensive, but it’s now available to lease for a similar amount.
According to CarsDirect, Lucid is currently offering a variety of discounts on most Air models as part of its “Accelerate the EV Experience” program. The cheapest of these is a promotion on the entry-level Air Pure, which starts at $71,400; however, the current discount shaves $15,000 off that price after a $7,500 federal tax credit and a $7,500 credit from Lucid. After the discount, you can buy the Lucid Air for $549 per month after paying $5,549 at signing, meaning the effective lease price is $703 per month.
By comparison, a current lease for a BMW 3 Series is $579/month, minus the $4,719 you pay at signing, which makes the effective lease price $710/month. That means the BMW is smaller, less powerful, and faster, but it’s more expensive overall. Using the same math, an A4 would be $726/month. A C-Class would be $683/month, but Lucid will make up the difference by offering $1,000 in free charging with Electrify America. To make the deal even better, Lucid will offer an additional $5,000 bonus if the customer chooses a vehicle already on-site, since no order is required.
All of this makes the Lucid Air less expensive to own for the next three years than most cars that are usually significantly cheaper, and it puts many luxury compact sedan customers in the market to move significantly higher. The Lucid Air Pure makes 430 horsepower, accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds, and can travel 420 miles on a single charge.
We don’t mean to sound like a Lucid commercial, though. The company’s least expensive sedan comes with some caveats of course: It’s rear-wheel drive only, not everyone lives in an area where an electric car is feasible, and Lucid isn’t known for being as reliable as mainstream brands (though two years or 24,000 miles of free scheduled maintenance on top of the warranty addresses that last issue). But for traditional luxury sedan shoppers with the funds and the inclination, the current Lucid Air deal makes a compelling case for switching to an EV.
