It appears that the New York Jets had some provisions for Aaron Rodgers if they’re going to move on to 2025.
It’s not that important now, but given that both parties have already agreed to break up, it appears that new head coach Aaron Glenn and general manager Darren Moosy were trying to hold back the outspoken quarterback.
According to Athletic’s Diana Lassini, there were two main requirements the Jets had for Rogers. One of them seemed simple enough. He had to attend all essential practices. It feels like it’s given, but Rogers actually missed the minicamp practice last summer while on his holiday in Egypt. The old Jets leadership seemed to have no concern about the journey. Obviously, Glenn and Moogie wanted to get ahead of the situation this time.
But the big thing is that Rogers will no longer be allowed to appear in external media during the season.
Rogers was a regular on the show for years, for better or worse. He reportedly makes more than $1 million a year to do so. While he talked a bit about football, Rodgers made headlines for the show to share conspiracy theories and more. He once hinted at the reveal that late-night television host Jimmy Kimmel, a fellow Disney employee, will be acquainted with convicted child sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein.
However, despite the confusion he brings frequently, Rogers remains a regular guest for McAfee on the network. At least during the season, it appears that ownership of the new Jets is seen as watching him appear on the show. So they wanted to stop it.
There’s almost certainly more to the Jets-Rodgers Split, but these two reported new rules should definitely help.
Rodgers threw for 3,897 yards last season with 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. After injuring his Achilles four plays in the 2023 campaign, he played for the organization for the first year. It is unclear what the 41-year-old will do next season. He said he was thinking about resigning and wanted to “take the time” to think about his next move after the season.
If Rodgers wants to continue his playing career, it won’t be with the Jets. He obviously needs to find a team that is still OK even with the media appearances and holidays.
