Ivor Foster was the rear gunner of the Lancaster bomber during World War II.
However, some of his most important memories were heading towards the end of the war, when he was sent on a mission to drop food for the hungry inhabitants of the Dutch under German occupation.
“We were going to do some good things,” he said.
“We could see a woman kneeling with her hands in the sky and see her prayer.”
We aimed to collect as many direct accounts as possible by 2025, the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II, to store veteran accounts for future generations.
The BBC is currently working on projects with many partners, including the Normandy Memorial Trust and the Royal British Legion. Some of the stories collected may be shared with our partners and used on the BBC News Platform.
