The Dallas Cowboys defeated their division rival 20-15 on the road on Thursday, snapping their seventh straight win against the New York Giants.
Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott completed 22 of 27 passes for 221 yards and two touchdowns, including a 55-yard scoring connection with CeeDee Lamb in the first half. And Dallas’ defense buckled but never collapsed, allowing just five field goals.
In fact, the Giants had a great game until they got into the end zone. New York had more first downs, more passing yards and more total yards than the Cowboys. The Giants also had the advantage in time of possession, holding the ball for 35 minutes and 37 seconds.
However, New York could not finish the drive. The Giants made five field goals, including two in the red zone, each time they entered Dallas’ territory.
New York’s first eviction after halftime was particularly discouraging. The Giants drove 77 yards in 11 plays over 6 minutes, 18 seconds. However, after reaching the 3-yard line, they opted to kick a short field goal instead of going for a fourth-and-goal.
The lack of offense allowed New York to only score three points the rest of the first half.
The Giants were successful in passing, but the Cowboys were held to just 1.1 yards per carry on the ground.
Dallas scored both touchdowns in the first half and added two field goals in the second half. Kicker Brandon Aubrey made 2 of 3, but missed for the first time in his career from more than 50 yards late in the fourth.
Two star players were also ejected during the final quarter. Cowboys defensive end Micah Parsons tangled with multiple offensive linemen on a third-down pass rush after the Giants’ penultimate drive and was carted off. And New York’s star rookie wide receiver Malik Nabors suffered a concussion on one play after Parsons left the game.
The Cowboys won, moving to 2 wins and 2 losses. The Giants now have one win and three losses.
