π Good morning everyone. Especially…
San Francisco 49ers
The 49ers’ dramatic offseason began with Christian McCaffrey (calf/Achilles injury) Excluded 90 minutes before the matchup against the Jets.
It doesn’t matter. They’re the 49ers. A crushing, dominant team. San Francisco beat New York 32-19 behind McCaffrey. Unnamed BackupJordan Mason ran 28 times for 147 yards and a touchdown, and Deebo Samuel also scored on the ground.
The defense, which regressed last year, shut down Aaron Rodgers and the Jets when star linebacker Fred Warner induced a Hall fumble that Malik Collins recovered. Demetrius Flanigan-Fowles intercepted a Rodgers pass. Breece Hall was held to just 54 yards on 16 carries. It’s a strong start for new defensive coordinator Nick Sorensen.
All of this leads to this startling number:
The 49ers scored eight straight points. They ran 70 plays to the Jets’ 49. The 49ers outshot the Jets, 401 to 266. The 49ers held the ball for 38 minutes, 40 seconds, the longest time of possession ever by a team against Rodgers.Skorigami!!!
The machine keeps running.
Honorable Mention
π¬ And it wasn’t a very good morning…
New York Jets
Rodgers missed last year’s opening game due to injury. He attended again this year, but the Jets were crushed. Of course, he doesn’t need to play in garbage time, but The Jets need him to improve even more. In the future.
I think he will. It was literally a year ago that he got injured and he didn’t play in the preseason. And yet he was awful Monday night. And it wasn’t just about Rodgers.
The offensive line, despite being healthy most of the year, gave Hall very few opportunities, and the run defense (allowing 180 yards) was abysmal, with New York producing just two plays of 20+ yards and one run of 10+ yards.
It certainly wasn’t the spectacular return Rodgers envisioned, nor was it the start his teammates and embattled manager Robert Saleh envisioned.

Civil sexual assault lawsuit filed against Deshaun Watson
Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson In a lawsuit filed Monday, he was accused of sexual assault and battery in 2020. In Texas.
of Details of the incident can be found here. The woman suing Watson, known as “Jane Doe,” is seeking more than $1 million in damages, alleging that Watson violated three sections of the Texas Penal Code: lewd conduct, assault and indecent assault. Dozens of women have sued Watson “We intend to pursue this case with the same vigor as any other case. We would like a jury trial. As for any specific comments on the facts of this case, I think the case speaks for itself,” Buzbee, who has been accused of various levels of sexual misconduct and is also representing himself in the case, told CBS Sports’ NFL insider Jonathan Jones.
Watson was suspended 11 games in the 2022 season for a similar incident from 2019-21. Roger Goodell He said Watson’s conduct was “predatory” and the league’s evidence called for a season-long suspension. The 11-game suspension was the result of collective bargaining agreement between the NFL and the NFLPA.
As for the impact on football, this is a civil and not a criminal case, The NFL could view this as evidence of a violation of the personal conduct policy. Will Brinson points out.
π Tyreek Hill detention: Star wide receiver considering legal action, body camera footage released
Tyreek Hill Sunday detention Continued on Monday Police body camera footage releasedThe noteworthy parts are:
An officer knocked on Hill’s car window and told him to leave it open. Hill responded by telling him not to knock on his window or he would be late for the Dolphins vs. Jaguars game. Hill then rolled up the window again, and the situation escalated. Hill appeared to be on the phone with investigator Drew Rosenhaus, but officers forced Hill out of the car, wrestled him to the ground and handcuffed him. The officers then lifted Hill out of the car and sat him on the curb. Dolphins defensive lineman Calais Campbell then pulled over to see what was going on. Campbell stood at a distance while officers confronted him. They handcuffed him and told him he was under arrest..
Here’s what Hill said Monday: Hill’s Dolphins teammate, Jalen Ramsey, saw the video. They called for the officer to be fired immediately..
Hill ended up competing. 80-yard touchdown (with mock handcuff celebration) Miami beat the Jaguars 20-17.

π New CBS Sports 134, plus can Notre Dame make the playoffs?
Recent AP Top 25Texas jumped into second place. CBS Sports 134 (See the full ranking here) Brandon Marcelo Power Rankings.
Brad Crawford said the Longhorns They deserve more love than they are getting now.But Steve Sarkisian won’t hear any of that. He remembers Notre Dame’s loss to Northern Illinois. Team warningand that’s a message worth hearing: National championships aren’t awarded in September, but dreams of winning one can be extinguished by October.
Is Notre Dame already doomed? Will Backus and Shehan Jeyaraja debate Can the Fighting Irish still make the playoffs?.
Bucks: “If the 2023 season has taught us anything, it’s that the selection committee can be lenient under the right circumstances. … 10-plus wins isn’t out of reach for the Irish. They have a chance to add to their resume against ranked teams like #19 Louisville and #11 USC. Florida State has lost some luster, but the win over the Seminoles still resonates.” Jeyaraja: “Realistically, the path forward is for Notre Dame, who just stumbled against a MAC team, to win 10 straight games, including tough matchups like Georgia Tech, Army and #19 Louisville. And we can only hope that those wins remain impressive at the end of the year. And on top of that, we can only hope that every at-large team in the country finishes with multiple losses.”
I’m still not satisfied with Northern Illinois University and Coach Thomas Hammock, and I’m looking forward to Jon Talty’s Article about Hammock’s moving post-match interviewHis husky, naturally, Biggest increase on CBS Sports 134.

Snyder: “He played the dog owner (aka “The Beast”) in ‘The Sandlot’ (spoiler alert, but that movie is over 30 years old). More famously, Jones delivered perhaps the most famous line in baseball movie history in ‘Field of Dreams’ alongside Kevin Costner. … Very few actors have that connection to baseball without actually playing it. For that and so much more, we thank you, Mr. Jones, and we mourn your loss.”
