Video First Drive: 2022 Acura Mdx
New Style, New Platform Converts SUVs that Hold Acura’s Large Family
Mark Phelan, Detroit Free Press
The 2025 Acura MDX has acquired several major upgrades and adds an attractive new audio system and other features to one of the already most popular three rows of luxury SUVs.
The MDX is Acura’s bestseller and most profitable vehicle. Honda’s luxury brands have sold over 1.2 million MDX since its launch in 2000.
Most changes include appearance and electronics. The sheet metal and drivetrain of the SUV have almost no change.
My favorite changes to MDX are inside: improved controls and top audio system in dynamite.
On a bright summer day surrounding highways, city streets and twisted country roads on the country roads north of San Diego, we evaluated the well-equipped MDX Type S using a forward package (top model).
The 2025 Acura MDX is currently on sale.

5 great features
Bang & Olufsen Audio: The Danish brand is new to Acura’s top audio supplier this year. The Type S comes with a standard 31 speaker system, which is a revelation. It includes a dozen speakers in the A-Pillar tweeter (B&OS signature feature) and a 3D surround sound headliner. Aluminum speaker grills contribute even more to the reproduction of destiny.
The slider adjusts the dipping level from stereo to Dolby 7.4.
Traditional tone controls are replaced by “Beosonic.” This is a touchscreen feature that allows you to change the sound according to its bright, energetic, relaxed and warm labelled properties.
When listening to high-end sound systems, I tend to trust sound engineers and use the default settings. This provided an incredible listening experience at all volume levels.
Adjustments should be made to listeners who prefer to micromanage their voices.
Automatic Lane Change: To avoid confusing it with hands-free driving, MDX measures the distance and speed of oncoming vehicles when the driver holds a light turn signal.
It sounds hopelessly loud, but after just a few miles I found the system to be intuitive.
I tapped the indicator stem. The instrument cluster requested a lane change, and the wheels rotated under the hands, leading the SUV to the next lane. The sensor determined the distance and pace of the vehicle approaching, and refused to begin changing lanes if there was no room.
Automatic lane changes only work on interstates.
Capacitive Steering Wheel Sensor: Most vehicles can determine whether the driver’s hand is on the wheel based on the torque input. Whether the driver is applying force to the steering wheel. It’s the key to maintaining the light touch required to change automatic lanes.
They’re not garbage at all, but they’re adjacent to the garbage and can easily deceive fools by alternating and fools for being stupid by not hanging their weight from the handle or dodging their hands over the wheels.
Capacitive sensors register the presence of human skin, making them more difficult to recognize light touches and more accurate.
Hello, Touchscreen, Good Riddance, Touchpad: The 2025 MDX’s 12.3-inch touchscreen is significantly closer to the driver than the previous model’s screen. As it is actually a touchscreen, the previous display had to be operated with the touchpad on the MDX’s center console, close to the shifter and cup holder. From the driver’s gaze, using a singular operating system, the touchpad did not function like the new Granmensable screen.
Google Built-in: MDX uses Google’s connection navigation system to access apps on the Google Store. Google’s voice recognition was performed with normal robustness. Apple CarPlay, and of course, Google’s Android Auto-, are also fully functional.

Performance, power, efficiency
The MDX offers front or all-wheel drive, a normally intake or turbocharged 3.5L V6 engine, and a 10-speed automatic transmission.
The Type S develops turbocharged 355 horsepower and 354 pound-feet of torque. Other models get 290 horsepower from a regular intake engine.
I drove the top MDX Type S. It accelerated with confidence and passed easily.
The interior was quiet and comfortable. The front seats trimmed with black wood and leather and navy upholstery with white stitching, had ample space and storage capacity.
Climate control has traditional buttons and toggle for key features. Audio controls are made via the steering wheel and touch screen.
Acura expects a fuel economy rating of 17 mpg in the city, and a fuel economy rating of 17 mpg for the 21 highways and Type S.
A normal intake engine that is not very powerful should rate 26/22/19 on front drive and 25/21 on AWD. Acura recommends premium fuel to get rated power and fuel economy.

Why do you get it?
The 2025 Acura MDX is a comfortable and familiar low luxury SUV. That new feature is a welcome addition that will keep the whole new model fresh until it arrives in a few years.
