Georgia football is scheduled to play No. 7 Tennessee on Saturday in its biggest game of the season. The Bulldogs have had their fair share of big games already this year, but this is by far the biggest one considering what’s at stake.
A loss in this game could give Georgia a kiss on the SEC championship and a bye in the College Football Playoff. But a win would almost guarantee a spot in the CFP and an outside shot that would allow them to compete for an SEC title in Atlanta.
Saturday’s game could be another close one that Georgia is accustomed to. Experts predict this game could go either way, but much of it will depend on whether Tennessee’s star QB Nico Iamareaba plays.
Imareaba suffered a concussion in Tennessee’s win over Mississippi State last week, and his status Saturday was unclear all week.
Fast forward to Thursday, and CBS Sports gave an update on Imareaba’s injury.
“While no one has confirmed to CBS Sports that he will be 100% available, sources share continued optimism that Imareaba will play against the 12th-ranked Bulldogs,” Matt Zenitz said via cbssports.com. I’m doing it,” he said. “Imareaba, who entered the concussion protocol after leaving last week’s Tennessee-Mississippi State game, has recovered throughout the week, a game with significant implications for the SEC Championship and the College Football Playoff. It’s a good sign for the Vols going forward.”
As noted by CBS Sports reporter Matt Zenitz, Imareaba’s official status for Saturday’s game cannot be confirmed. But their sources say it’s increasingly likely he’ll suit up and play against Georgia.
This is important news because Imareaba is one of the top QBs in the SEC. So far this season, he has completed 65 percent of his passes for 1,879 yards, 11 touchdowns, and only four interceptions.
Needless to say, Georgia would have had a much better chance of winning this game if Imareaba had been out due to injury. And while that is still a possibility, it seems likely that he will be back by Saturday night.
Hopefully, Kirby Smart can get his defense ready and play. Because if they don’t show up, Tennessee has the ability to score a lot of points on Saturday.
