Tenants in Mott Haven’s new luxury building say they had no heat, power or work elevators for more than 24 hours.
News 12 was reported to a building on 138 Bruckner Boulevard, which opened in 2024 for the residential lottery. Amenities include a pool, basketball courts and courtyards.
Residents say the rent will run for around $3,000. They say they don’t get what they paid for the problem. They say they have issues from the day they move in, like inconsistent access to amenities. Now they say they can’t heat their homes, use the elevator, or even enter the building with the electronic key FOB.
The property is owned by JCS Realty and says it is working with Con Edison to restore power.
Con Ed said that four transformers were installed in the building, but the cable at the bottom of one of the transformers failed. They say it was the only feeder supplying the building, which generated electricity. The energy company told News12 that it hoped to get its services back by Wednesday.
In the meantime, JCS Realty said it would provide up to $300 and two weeks of rent for hotel stays to accommodate residents.
The tenants say the offer was not made to them until News12 contacted the management company about the building’s issues.
The Housing Protection and Development Agency currently has 28 open violations in the building, many of which are linked to heat and hot water.
