Amy Walter:
Well, this is – this one poll definitely starts Donald Trump where he didn’t spend his time in his first semester. This is an approved rating of over 50%.
Now, looking at the average of all the polls taken since he began his tenure as president, he is a little lower than that, but still in positive territory. I think there are a few things to be aware of about that. First, historically, his overall recognition rating is lower than where most presidents were.
But what’s most important and most unique is how highly rated his disapproval is. Usually, as we know, this isn’t your typical first-term president, but the first-term president comes despite the fact that there is some benefit to doubt from the other side.
And when you look at someone, like Ronald Reagan, his overall approval rating when he wasn’t that high in the first place. They were in their 50s low, but his disapproval ratings appeared to be eight. This is 47%.
So there’s the opposition delved into Donald Trump. One – I think that’s why the most important figure is not looking at his approval ratings, but seeing whether the opposition to him grows.
