Amy Walter:
Well, that’s interesting. This has less ideology than the style.
It’s not about the problems they’re fighting, but about the battle itself. As Tam said, that’s true. What you hear from Chuck Schumer, and from Bernie Sanders about being responsible for the many policies they want to propose, and in particular, they are responsible for the many policies they may propose, and they will ultimately be similar.
That’s how they make their point. And I think we’ll see if what’s going on right now at these town halls is a sign of wider dissatisfaction with Democrat voters in the way Washington leadership deals with Donald Trump. First and foremost, I think it will appear in the party primary.
We start to see people make an announcement for their seats in Congress immediately. And as we saw when Republicans were there, these primary elections weren’t in the White House, so we were about to return to the White House.
In 2009, in 2010, and of course, Trump, this idea, I saw the same thing. We need to see people fight more. It turns out that in many cases some of those fighters are not great general election candidates. I think that’s a big question for Democrats in the coming months.
