Tamara Keith:
I’m certainly keeping an eye on who that person is.
Already, all the elected officials we’ve heard of fall into the same category of being incredibly loyal to Donald Trump. And I think that’s the important lesson he learned from his last incarnation. He was being marveled at by generals and people were persuading him, “Oh, yeah, this guy should give it a try.”
And he ended up installing a government full of people who disagreed with him on policy. This time, loyalty to Trump and agreement with Trump on policy will be the most important conditions. And that’s what we’re already seeing in the people he names.
One thing to note, and this is very technical, is that there is a memorandum of understanding that the incoming administration is supposed to sign with the current administration, essentially handing them the keys and giving them access to the inside. This means that you can take a look. , you can deploy landing teams across various agencies so you can hit the ground running. So far, Trump’s team has not signed them.
It also manages things like conflicts of interest and allows for background checks. These notes come with various items. Not signed yet. This is a complete break from precedent. Even in 2016, which is widely seen as a really bad transition because the Trump campaign scrapped the plan two days after the election, it was certainly signed at the time.
Therefore, it is not clear at this point whether they will sign or not. In any case, Trump is scheduled to be inaugurated on January 20th. But the people who are watching this are saying that the transition period is really the most dangerous time for the U.S. government, and that’s why they’re worried, they’re speaking out, they’re sounding the alarm.
