A thick, melt-in-the-mouth, spicy burger perfect for the end and start of the year.
As we enter mid-December, it’s natural to start thinking about how to brighten up 2024 or get a strong start to 2025. Obviously, here at SoraNews24, such ambition is superimposed on our always standard mindset of thinking about: I’m glad to hear that Lotteria is preparing something special for the New Year season.
The fast food chain will soon release four types of “Toro Tamagyu Suki Burger.” Breaking down the name into bite-sized pieces, “toro” and “tama” are shortened forms of “torori” (melting) and “tamago” (egg), and “gyu” means “beef”. Sukiyaki is, of course, a traditional Japanese hotpot dish that features stewed beef.
▼Lotteria is officially called “Beef Sukiyaki Burger with Toro Tama” in English. There’s some linguistic flair to this, but it also sounds like the interpreter left work early and went to lunch (perhaps to eat a sukiyaki burger).
Starting with the most basic of these decadent burgers, the Torori Beef Sukiyaki Burger combines a hamburger patty with a mound of meaty beef short ribs, called kalbi in Japan. It’s sandwiched with a soft fried egg, and when you bite into it, it feels like shredded beef dipped in egg, making it the ideal way to eat sukiyaki. The beef is covered with sukiyaki sauce, recreating the taste of hot pot soup with the flavor of bonito stock.
Introducing the “Spicy Toro Tamamyu Sukiyaki Burger,” which is a classic sukiyaki burger with spicy sauce added.
…and if you have a huge meat craving, you can order both the spicy and non-spicy sandwiches as double beef (or “baimori” if you order in Japanese) versions with twice the amount of beef short rib. Masu. Officially
▼Even if you eat both at once, it’s 4 times more than ribs!
The Sukiyaki Burger is back on Lotteria’s menu for the first time in almost a year, but the eggless version isn’t part of this comeback tour. Why not enjoy becoming one with the work?
The basic yam beef sukiyaki burger costs 590 yen ($3.95), the spicy version costs 610 yen, and the double beef version costs 200 yen more each. The entire herd will arrive at Lotteria on December 20th and will be on sale until late January, while supplies last.
