The Phillies play their final home game of the regular season on Wednesday, but some of the Aramark employees who normally work at the stadium’s concession stand will be absent.
As Aramark workers continue their strike, More Perfect Union spoke with various workers to try to understand what they are fighting for.
What’s new: Concession workers for the Eagles, 76ers and Phillies are making just $10 an hour selling $18 beers.
They are struggling, working multiple jobs just to pay for medical expenses.
Now they’re striking against Aramark, one of the largest food service companies on the planet. pic.twitter.com/fmPfUFWH0g

At the heart of this issue are Aramark employees working at Citizens Bank Park, Lincoln Financial Field, and Wells Fargo Center. They say the company treats them as three separate jobs so they don’t get health care benefits. This seems like a pretty legitimate complaint; they work full time for the company but don’t get benefits because their hours are counted separately. If you took a poll, 75% of respondents would probably side with the striking workers on this issue, as would employees who are unhappy about $10 an hour.
Destiny LeGarde of Phillies Nation provided an excellent analysis of the strike, which is worth watching in addition to the video above if you want to understand the situation.
