Trump changes stock tone as markets drop
Yesterday, the S&P 500 had its worst day since September, wiping out all the profits after President Donald Trump’s election. Meanwhile, the Nasdaq has now dropped by one day, the largest day since 2022, falling deep into “correction” territory, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average down by about 2.1%.
As Trump’s policies began to take shape in the first 50 days of his inauguration, some of the optimism from investors reversed the course after Trump continued on the threat of imposing tariffs on Canada and Mexico, particularly on China. The downward spiral of stock markets has heightened fears that the US will enter a recession.

Trump, who previously cited the stock market multiple times as a measure of his success and popularity, is now changing his tone.
In an interview with Fox News on Sunday, Trump said: “You can’t really see the stock market. If you look at China, you have a 100-year perspective. There’s a quarter. We go quarterly.” He also admitted that there is a “period of transition,” referring to some of his concepts of economic pain due to tariffs.
In contrast, Trump celebrated the rise in stocks and the economic improvements on the eve of his inauguration. “Everyone calls it – I don’t want to see this, I’m too bragging about it, but I’ll say it anyway – the Trump effect,” he said at a rally with his supporters.
The White House is also underestimating market movements. Last week, Treasury Secretary Scott Bescent said there will be a “detox period” as the economy moves away from government spending. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said prices for some items will rise as a result of tariffs, but overall inflation will not increase.

Kiev launches the biggest drone attack on Moscow when Ukraine and the US are giving diplomacy
Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Ukrainian President Voldimi Zelensky will meet today at Saudi Arabia’s Key Summit. Zelensky is trying to repair relations with Washington after a disastrous Elliptical Office meeting with President Donald Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance, as Ukraine, Russia and the United States attempt to negotiate an end to the war in Ukraine.
The bombing comes as Ukrainian officials are in a tough spot as they head into pivotal consultations with the United States, led by Saudi Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
At the negotiation table, President Donald Trump and his team are demanding important concessions, but have not publicly asked about his Russian counterparts, despite the president saying he is considering additional sanctions in Moscow. On the battlefield, Kremlin forces are pushing back Ukrainian troops, which have launched an anti-invasion of Russian soil. Click here for details.

Some families discard traditional medicines in measles outbreaks

Hundreds of families met Dr. Ben Edwards for measles care at a makeshift clinic in the so-called “Birndminium” in Seminole, Texas. He asks about the patient’s diet and nutritional intake, but he does not do blood tests or provide a vaccine. He determines whether patients may benefit from cod liver oil, which is high in vitamins A and D, and offers free supplements. A nearby health food store called Health 2 U also offers cod liver oil to those seeking advice to children with measles.
Pushing to treat measles patients in the West Texas outbreak with Edwards vaccination and isolation via vitamins is advice given by newly confirmed health and human services director Robert F. Kennedy Jr. As of Friday, measles measles had been confirmed in West Texas, with 30 cases across state borders, according to public health data. Both have died.
Health reporter Erica Edwards reported from the Seminoles, where she told Dr. Ben Edwards about his decision to abandon the vaccine.
