Steph Curry wore his historic masterclass with a 56-point explosion in the Warriors’ 121-115 comeback victory in the Magic in Orlando on Thursday night.
But even he remained in his mind, so he was not completely satisfied yet.
Curry made 12 3-pointers with his performance filled with highlight reels. His Splash mate and former Warriors teammate Klay Thompson NBA records for 14 3 seconds in the game, three made two shy away from breaking it. Even in his 16th year, Curry admitted that the record remains in his heart.
“But I’m still chasing 14,” Curry told reporters after the game in Orlando. “So (Thompson) still got me.”
Curry finished the game with 56 points on 16/25 shooting from the field, 12 out of 19 from distance and 12 out of 12 from the free throw line, adding four rebounds, three assists and two steels.
The Warriors, who are starting their five-game road trip, are a bit late to start their game on Thursday. Curry helped bring them back to life, and it started with a half-fifth 50-foot buzzer beater.
That’s all the chefs you need to start cooking. By the halfway point of the third quarter, Curry had already scored 36 points on nine triples. His 12th and final tray helped seal the Golden State victory.
“I like the lights in the arena. There are obviously certain arenas here that have some good games, but it just looks different. You feel a different energy,” Curry said. “Our fanbase has grown a bit. I know the home team doesn’t like it, but it’s a good energy here and the fans seem to be hooked on it. And they love it when the show starts to happen.
“Obviously you only get once a year and get mostly delivered each time.”
The Warriors improved to 32-27 during the season, winning seven of their last eight games. Curry still had 23 games left in the regular season to reach or surpass Thompson’s record.
