Jill and I join the people of India in mourning the passing of former Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
Today’s unprecedented level of cooperation between the United States and India would not have been possible without the Prime Minister’s strategic vision and political courage. From signing the U.S.-India Civil Nuclear Agreement to supporting the launch of the first Quad between Indo-Pacific partners, he pioneered breakthroughs that will continue to strengthen our country and the world for generations to come. Ta. He was a true politician. A dedicated public servant. Above all, he was a kind and humble person.
I had the opportunity to meet Prime Minister Singh in 2008 as Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and as Vice President during an official visit to the United States in 2009. He also graciously hosted me in New Delhi in 2013. , the relationship between the United States and India is one of the most influential in the world. And by working together as partners and friends, our nations can carve out a future of dignity and limitless possibilities for all our people.
