The Indian press reported on Sunday that 14 women were killed in stampede at a railway station in New Delhi, India’s capital.
Many of the victims were Hindu pilgrims traveling to the Maha Kumbh Festival in Playagraj in northern India, according to Delhi caretaker Atisi.

The stampede happened late on Saturday, but thousands of people were waiting for the train to gather at New Delhi Railway Station. The incident occurred after some passengers slipped and fell on others as they came down from the pedestrian bridge connecting the train platforms, authorities said.
Sheela Devi, who was at Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narain Hospital in New Delhi, said the announcement regarding the change in the train platform to gather the bodies of her stepdaughter’s daughter-in-law caused confusion among stomping passengers.
“The crowd went out of control and no one could control it,” said Nikhil Kumar, the shopkeeper who witnessed the surge in crowds.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he was “suffering from Stampede.”
“My thoughts are with all those who have lost their loved ones. I pray that the injured will recover quickly. The authorities are supporting all those affected by this stampede. ” he said on social platform X.
Railway Minister Ashwini Weishno said an investigation was ordered to find what led to the Stampede.
