WEBSTER CITY — For the first time since the 2014-15 season, the St. Edmond girls basketball team has won three straight games.
The Gaels completed a perfect week with a 48-44 victory here in Webster City on Friday night. This gave the team its first North Central Conference win of the season.
St. Edmund (5-7 overall, 1-4 league) started Monday with a 48-37 win over Eagle Grove. They showed no signs of tiring last night and outscored the Lynx (2-11, 0-6), who had won their previous two games with a 17-point win over Munson Northwest Webster on Thursday. ).
“We are so proud of them as coaches.” SEHS head coach CJ Tracy said. “It’s been exciting to see what they’ve been doing this past week and I’m really looking forward to seeing what’s to come.”
After Webster City was up 45-42 late in the fourth, Chloe Palmer calmly made her way to the free-throw line and sank two shots. Peyton Bradley was signed at the charity stripe after the Lynx fumbled.
Palmer led the way with 14 points, while Josie Harvey added 12 points and Abby Huss added 11 points. Anna Larsen scored seven points and Peyton Bradley added four points.
The Gaels continued to compete until the first 16 minutes, scoring nine points in the first two minutes of the quarter and up 12 points by the 2:45 mark of the third quarter. I turned it into an advantage.
Hass, a sophomore, extended St. Edmond’s lead with three straight 3-pointers.
“We got off to a great start in the first half.” Tracy said. “My legs were tired after the physical matches the past two nights, so I needed to get some momentum going.”
Evie Davis scored 14 points for Webster City. Tristin Wright added eight points.
“We did a great job of letting them shoot outside while also falling inside.” Tracy said. “I thought we did a good job guarding (Olivia) Galentine, who is a player who can score in a hurry.”
St. Edmond will look to extend its winning streak to four when the Gaels finally return home, hosting No. 12 (Class 1A) Coon Rapids vs. Bayard on Monday at 7 p.m. They finish the regular season with five of seven games in the SEHS gym.
“I asked the girls if they even knew where their white (home) uniforms were anymore.” Tracy laughed. “It’s been a while since we’ve been at home, but it’s exciting to have three games in a row this weekend and have the chance to play at home again next week.”
