Research has shown that health and vitality are closely linked to mental, social, and physical health. Financial well-being remains the weakest aspect of well-being, with finance-related concerns becoming the biggest stressor High vitality leads to better health care and stronger support networks
HONG KONG and ANTWERP, Belgium , Sept. 30, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — Rising financial stress is having a negative impact on overall health and well-being, according to a new study from Cigna, leading to people seeking help and social support. The number of people relying on the system is increasing. Healthcare, global health.
The 2024 Cigna Healthcare Global Health Study, released today, includes findings from more than 10,000 respondents in 11 markets and finds that overall health and vitality is declining globally. Meanwhile, economic well-being continues to prove the weakest aspect of well-being. Although stress levels have decreased in most markets, financial concerns remain strong, with cost of living and personal finances being the biggest sources of stress globally.
The report highlights important vitality differences between demographics. Men report higher energy than women, but women’s scores have declined significantly since 2023. Among generations, baby boomers are the most energetic, followed by millennials and Gen Z, with Gen X reporting the lowest scores. In regions such as the United States and the Middle East, living and medical costs prevent many people from receiving the care they need. Although stress has shown improvement, challenges remain. Although stress levels have declined in most markets, particularly Hong Kong and parts of Europe, 50% of respondents still reported stress-related sleep disturbances, highlighting the continuing concern. There is. People with high energy are better at taking care of their health: People with high energy are confident in taking care of their health, and 90% are optimistic, compared to just 19% of people with low energy. Flexible working improves organizational well-being: Hybrid workers are more likely to be satisfied with their jobs (59% vs. 55%) and enthusiastic about their jobs than fully in-person workers ( 70% vs. 64%). more likely to look for a new job (36% vs. 40%);
Jason Sadler pointed to the critical role of social systems in crises, saying: “Our findings show that while financial stress is impacting the world’s vitality, social support and connections are a lifeline. “Communities need to allocate appropriate resources, including reliable health insurance.” To reverse declines in vitality, community support systems must be strengthened while adopting comprehensive strategies that address multiple determinants of vitality. ”
