The Sioux will host the Comets on Saturday, Oct. 26, in the second round of the 2024 North Dakota High School Activities Association (NDHSAA) 9-Man Football Playoffs, with the host nation sending Alexander home to face Westhope New York. Like Berg, they lost 54-16. -Glenburn advances to the quarterfinals this week.
Westhope took the lead 8:19 into the first quarter, then forced a Comets punt. The snap went over the head of Alexander’s punter, then was kicked off a Sioux defender and missed into the back of the end zone, avoiding a touchdown. Instead, Westhope got a two-point safety at the 6:14 mark.
The home team got a free kick after a safety and scored again at 5:35 to take an 18-0 lead. Both teams traded field position for the remainder of the first quarter.
The Sioux started the second quarter with another touchdown, leading 24-0 at the 11:26 mark. Westhope added another score to take a 32-0 lead at the 7:29 mark, but the Alexander Comets struggled to make enough plays on offense to move the chains consistently.
The Sioux defense relentlessly thwarted Alexander’s passing attack and led 38-0 at the half.
The Comets were able to recover in the second half, scoring 16 points. This effort was not enough to close the gap and the host team added more points for the eventual victory.
