Chicago Bears safety Jonathan Owens traveled to Paris this summer to watch his wife, Simone Biles, compete in the Olympics.
On Sunday, it was Biles’ turn to watch the Bears open their season at home against the Tennessee Titans, and she took in the show.
The Bears struggled offensively with rookie Caleb Williams at quarterback and fell behind 17-3 early in the third quarter. The Bears forced the Titans to punt on Tennessee’s first possession of the second half, giving Chicago its first touchdown of the day.
Defensive lineman Daniel Hardy broke through the Titans line to block a Ryan Stonehouse punt kick, and Owens picked up the loose ball and returned it 21 yards for a Bears touchdown.
As a 17-3 deficit narrowed to 17-10, the Soldier Field crowd went wild, with Biles watching.
“I nearly had a heart attack,” she wrote on social media.
The play sparked a defensive comeback for the Bears, and Chicago scored an interception return for a touchdown to win the game, 24-17.
Biles won four medals at the Paris Olympics, including three gold medals, and Owens joined her in celebrating.
Biles will be happy to celebrate Owens’ heroics after he joined Chicago in the offseason and played well on his first day in a Bears uniform.
