After analyzing a variety of data, the national digital media company ranked Sheridan High School as the top high school in Wyoming and three other north-central Wyoming high schools in the top 25 in the state.
U.S. News & World Report has ranked Sheridan High School the No. 1 high school in Wyoming based on data from the 2021-22 school year.
U.S. News analyzed six indicators of school quality through information collected by RTI International, a global nonprofit social science research firm, and assigned a weighted score to each indicator.
The categories and weights given were: college readiness 30%, college curriculum breadth 10%, state assessment proficiency 20%, state assessment performance 20%, underserved student performance 10%, and graduation rate 10%.
U.S. News publishes annual rankings of the top high schools in each state and the nation. It’s unclear how long the company has done so, but the company said this is the first time Wyoming has allowed the state to use Advanced Placement data, which helped many schools move up the rankings.
Sheridan High School scored 89.89 out of a possible 100.
Statewide, Tongue River High School placed 15th, Big Horn High School placed 17th and Buffalo High School placed 23rd.
The number one ranked high school in the country is located in Peoria, Arizona.
Nationally, Sheridan High School ranked 1,785th out of about 25,000 schools surveyed, placing it in the top 8 percent.
