Construction is underway on a new private student housing facility on the former site of Georgia Southern University’s University Plaza, located next to Zaxby’s and just a short walk from campus.
Charme is a project of Dallas, Texas-based investment team Rael Development Corp. Rael is working closely with the City of Statesboro and Georgia Southern to manage the planning and construction of Charme, with the project valued at a total of $61 million.
We spoke with GS student Vanessa Alcala about the lease rates, and Alcala spoke with Charme employees about the rates to gauge whether she’d be interested in leasing there the following year.
According to Alcala, “As I recall, a one-bedroom apartment was about $1,400 a month, and a four-bedroom apartment was about $600 a month.”
According to its website, the new complex will feature a variety of amenities, including an elevated pool with cabanas, TVs and outdoor games, a speakeasy-style games room with a pool table and cafe, and a coffee shop.
The new residence hall will offer 250 units with a total of 636 beds, providing more accommodations for students looking for a comfortable place to live during their time at Georgia Southern. It is expected to open its doors to students in the fall of 2025.
When we reached out to Charme, they declined to comment on exact opening dates or lease prices at this time. For more information, stop by Charme’s leasing suite on Chandler Road.
