The LIV Golf League will begin its fourth season on Thursday in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The first of the 14 events will take place at Riyadh Golf Club. The Riad Golf Club is lit up and can be viewed in the morning and afternoon.
With the season ongoing, there are seven new things to look around Liv Golf.
Now on network TV
Liv Golf is the first to sign a network television contract in the US. Fox Sports will become a provider of various platforms, with first events available on FS1 and FS2. Liv Golf offers streaming via the Liv Golf+ App. This includes an annual fee of $60 in the US or $6.99 per event. The league will win several rounds on the Main Fox Channel over weekends of events, primarily US-based.
Major movements
Liv golfers need to play more than just money. The US Open became the first major championship to create a direct exemption category via individual point lists. He’s one player this year and two next year, but better than what Liv has gotten before. It was nothing. Liv wanted to get more spots, so he could potentially receive some exemptions from PGA Of America, who has already awarded invitations to Joaquin Niemann and Sergio Garcia.
Count everything
The Liv team format will be subject to changes this year. For the first time, all four scores for each round will be counted into the team score. Last year, three of the four scores were counted in the first two days, and all four were counted only on the last day.
Quiet off-season
Unlike last year, Liv Golf didn’t have any offseason big-name signatures. John Rahm and Tyrrell Hutton joined LIV before the 2024 season, but this time Liv saved money and went with the younger players. Tom McKibin (Northern Ireland), Yubin Jang (Korea), Luis Masaveu (Spain), Frederik Kjettrup (Denmark), Ben Campbell (New Zealand) and Chieh-Po Lee (Chinatai) have joined the league. Chieh-Po will join Anthony Kim, who has won his spot in the Liv Golf Prosomions event and is back in that role, becoming a wildcard player.
New location
This year there will be five new venues starting in Riyadh. Others include Mexico City (formerly home to the WGC Mexico Championship), Korea (Jack Nicklaus Golf Club, Incheon), Indianapolis (Chatham Hills Club), Michigan (Cardinal of St. John’s), and Michigan for teams This is Shapultepec Golf Club. Championship.
New Leadership
Liv Golf has a new CEO. Scott O’Neill was recently taken over by Hall of Fame Greg Norman, two major winners who helped launch the league in 2022. Of the existing professional golf landscapes, the proposed deals of the public investment funds and PGA Tour and DP World Tour that support Liv Golf are still settled. Norman remains at Liv Golf this year, but it is unclear what role he will have.
I’m taking part in the PGA Tour
Over the past three years, Liv Golf has largely avoided playing against what Norman called the “Legacy” PGA Tour event. But whether it’s by design or inevitable, several LIV events are being played in the same week as some larger PGA Tour events. Next week’s Adelaide Tournament is the same week as the signature event Tour’s Genesis Invitational. Events in Hong Kong and Singapore will take place for the same weeks as the Tour’s Arnold Palmer Invitational and Player Championship. The last three events in Liv are the same week as FedEx Cup Playoffs.
