Senator Andy Kim said on Sunday that Republicans needed votes to maintain government funding ahead of a key deadline for next month if the Trump administration continues to restructure federal agencies and programs. He showed that he is open to working with other Democrats to deny the situation.
“In a few weeks, Republicans will try to understand how they will move forward. They have been requiring democratic votes for all ongoing solutions for the past two years. , we shouldn’t expect that this time,” Kim said in an interview with NBC News’ “Meet the Press.” A continuous solution, or CR, is a bill that will provide temporary funding to the government at the previous level until a new budget is agreed.
Kim added that he likes to play against the Republicans like this, as the Trump administration has government agencies such as the U.S. International Development Agency and the Department of Education in the first few weeks of President Donald Trump’s term.
“They are simply trying to dismantle the government,” Kim told “Meet the Press” moderator Kristen Welker. “Yes, look. If you need to take action to keep yourself accountable, you must use leverage that must be enforced. Action.”
Kim joined forces to fund the government, adding that “it should not be allowed just because they turn it around and dismantle the government.”
Kim is not the first Democrat senator to raise such concerns ahead of the March 14th funding deadline.
D-Wash, vice-chairman of the Senate Approvals Committee. During the previous budget cycle, Sen. Patty Murray told NBC News last week that it would be difficult to negotiate with Republicans on the budget if the White House is cutting funds allocated to approved institutions.
“Democrats and Republicans alike must be able to trust that when a deal is signed into law, they follow it,” she said.
Kim stressed that if Democrats break away from Republicans through government funding and the federal government is shut down, the GOP should be held accountable.
“This is about whether they can get the votes. They are the majority and if they can’t govern it, you know that Americans will see,” Kim said. I said.
Already, Rank and File Democrats are unclear whether votes against the Republican Party and shutting down the government will achieve that goal, but more will be the way their party leaders fight back against the Trump administration. I’m looking for something.
Last week, several Senate and House Democrats gathered together with protesters in a protest against Trump in front of a Capitol building, and at one point, a rallying person said, “Do you do your job! Your job?” Please do it!”
“We should basically be at the forefront of a constitutional crisis and be allowed and tolerated until we see this administration taking very illegal measures and see changes in its actions. Not that, Kim said on Sunday.
