House Democrat leaders today urged Senate Democrats to vote for what they call a “partisan” Republican fundraising bill, despite potential government shutdowns turning the corner.
A day ago, the six-month fundraising bill cleared the House as everyone except the party and one Democrat voted against the measure.
As they launched a three-day policy retreat from Washington State, minority leader Hakeem Jeffries, DN.Y. urged Democrat senators to reject the GOP bill and take the one-month stop-gup bill and win a one-month stop-gup bill to buy negotiators.
Two main Democratic budgeters in Congress — Senator Rosa Delauro of Connecticut and Senator Patty Murray of Washington — recently introduced the short-term bill.
“There are alternatives that Senators, Democrats and Republicans should consider. It’s a four-week clean, ongoing resolution that gives both the House and Senate Democrats and Republicans the ability to actually meet the needs of the country and reach a consensus that doesn’t hurt everyday Americans.”
He said he has continued protections with Senate Democrats, including minority leaders Chuck Schumer, DN.Y. and other key members. “The House of Representatives’ democratic position is transparent,” Jeffries continued. “We opposed Trump Musk Johnson’s reckless Republican spending bill, proven by the strong opposition vote we made on the House floor yesterday.”
Rep. Ted Lieu, D-Calif. , the Democrat Caucus vice-chairman provided strong direction to the Senators.
“Hospital Democrats are very clear. We’re asking Senate Democrats to vote no on this ongoing resolution. “And that’s one of the things people are trying to see this vote, and now all the bad things happening with Doge and Donald Trump, Elon Musk can go back to this vote.”
