How US News & World Report rankings are determined
The ranking methodology analyzed schools’ math and reading performance at the state and district level, according to U.S. News & World Report. The news organization looked at the state ratings of 105,093 preschool, elementary and middle schools, looking specifically at students performing at or above proficiency in those academic areas.
“The 2025 Best Elementary and Secondary Schools rankings are based on how schools provide high-quality education and prepare students for future success,” Dr. Lamont Jones, U.S. News’ education editor, said in a news release. “We will provide parents with a way to assess whether their child is doing well.” “Research continues to show that how students perform academically at these early grade levels is a major factor in their success in high school and beyond.”
