Second Chance
2nd Chance was founded 10 years ago with the goal of empowering women and girls by helping them discover their life purpose and build their businesses. Edna White leads a team of three employees who provide personal development and coaching services and resources.
“As a woman-owned business, Second Chance promotes diversity and empowerment,” White says. “Female-led leadership advances our mission to support marginalized groups, including homeless women and justice-involved individuals, ensuring impactful programming and a commitment to gender equality and social change.”
White said the 100% women-owned company has faced challenges such as fundraising, “plus overcoming institutional barriers and gaining recognition in a competitive marketplace have been ongoing hurdles,” she said. Despite these challenges, 2nd Chance remains committed to its mission, leveraging resilience and innovative approaches to overcome obstacles and effectively support marginalized communities.
The company supports women by hosting collaborative events that foster networking, skill-building, and mentorship opportunities. 2nd Chance also organizes self-care days and provides space and resources for women to focus on their wellness. These efforts aim to create a supportive environment where women can thrive personally and professionally, develop skills, build connections, and prioritize their mental and emotional health.
Recent accomplishments for White and Second Chance include the completion of their 32nd book, which promotes self-improvement and purposeful living. Awards include the Town of Brookhaven Women’s Service Award, Women of Excellence Award and most recently the Empowering Women Award. “These recognitions highlight our commitment to supporting and uplifting women and demonstrate our commitment to personal growth, community support and empowerment,” said White.
