Sean McVay wasn’t happy with how his offense played Monday night. There’s no other coach like that. The Rams had 327 yards of total offense, but this was the second time in Matthew Stafford’s tenure that the Rams failed to score a single touchdown.
The 23-15 loss to the Dolphins was demoralizing and potentially damaging, leaving the Dolphins once again under .500 at 4-5. In the postgame press conference, McVay was asked what he was feeling in real time during the game, and the first word that came to mind was “frustration.”
The last question he faced from the media was to assess and explain the state of the Rams’ offense.
He simply said, “Inconsistent.”
He didn’t go wild by any means, but he was clearly frustrated with the offensive performance, which was understandable.
The Rams, who scored 30 points against the Vikings and 26 points against the Seahawks over the past two weeks, were held to five field goals and only 15 points.
Matthew Stafford was sacked four times and hit six times, and the Dolphins had seven tackles for loss, including one interception and two forced fumbles.
Simply put, there was a bad snap over Stafford’s head, a Kyren Williams lost fumble, a drop by Puka Nacua, and poor play by Joe Noteboom at right tackle. There were too many mistakes overall in a game that had a good chance of winning thanks to another strong Rams defense.
