Rams head coach Sean McVay came away impressed after coaching with Patriots quarterback Drake Maye on Sunday.
“he looks like a stud” McVay said, via ESPN’s Mike Reese. “I didn’t put much effort into him coming out (to college). I studied him hard and really respected their opinions and learned a lot that they loved everything about him. The impact he has on his teammates is obvious. He looks like he’s going to be a special player for a long time.”
Although the Rams won, Maye completed 30 of 40 passes for 282 yards, two touchdowns and one interception, and McVay said he gave the Rams’ defense his all.
“He did a great job of making plays in the pocket, was patient and got some under checkdowns where guys were able to create chances. We had tighter coverage, so he was able to put the ball in a tight window,” McVay said.
Starting in just the sixth game of his NFL career, Maye is exhibiting the traits that led the Patriots to draft him with the No. 3 pick, giving the Patriots confidence that the biggest pieces of their rebuild are in place.
