RENTON, WA – The Seattle Seahawks today partnered with Virginia Mason Franciscan Health, the team’s official health care provider, to promote cancer awareness efforts to promote early detection through the NFL’s Crucial Catch: Intercept Cancer initiative. Announced. The Seahawks will host the team’s annual Crucial Catch game against the New York Giants on October 6th. To commemorate the campaign, representatives from the Seahawks and Virginia Mason Franciscan Health held a “Crucial Catch” flag raising ceremony at Lumen Field.

Every year, every NFL team hosts a Crucial Catch game that features on-field and in-stadium activations. To encourage fans to schedule regular health checkups, fans will see different colors on the Crucial Catch logo and on game day to represent multiple cancers that can be detected early. Pink: Breast cancer. Lavender: All cancers. Teal: Cervical cancer. Blue: Prostate cancer. Gold: Childhood cancer. White: lung cancer.
The first 50,000 fans will receive a special Crucial Catch bracelet, courtesy of Virginia Mason Franciscan Health. The bracelet, which utilizes NFC technology, will reveal a special video message from WR Tyler Lockett about the importance of early detection and scheduling regular doctor’s visits.
Before the game at the Ticketmaster Tailgate in Mason, Virginia, Franciscan Health will conduct on-site lung and prostate cancer testing for ticketed fans. Lung screening is done via VMFH’s mobile CT trailer, and prostate screening is done through a simple blood test. Fans who wish to participate can fill out a screening form in advance. Fans at the Ticketmaster Tailgate can also fill out an “I Celebrate” card, and cancer survivors can ring the official Crucial Catch bell.
At halftime, the team will honor six local Virginia Mason Franciscan Health cancer patients by officially ringing the clinical catch bell on the field.
During the month of October, the Seahawks will donate 12% of proceeds from purchases of official Crucial Catch gear inside the Seahawks Pro Shop to the Crucial Catch Foundation. The Crucial Catch Fund partners with Virginia Mason Franciscan Health to help local patients who cannot afford the costs associated with cancer treatment.
