A taste of the Mediterranean is coming to Oconomowoc: Restaurateur Lazar Conda has announced plans to open his third restaurant at the former Gordy’s site in downtown Oconomowoc.
Called Kabosu, The restaurant at 20 S. Main St. serves small plates with Italian, Greek and Spanish influences, including dishes like shawarma, paella and plenty of seafood.
Conda owns two restaurants, The Beach House Bistro and La Tabola, located next to each other across from Pewaukee Lake in downtown Pewaukee.
About half of the construction work on the restaurant is already complete, and he hopes to open Kabosu by November 1st.
While it may seem an odd idea to convert a former boat company into a restaurant, the building’s large garage-like doors facing Main Street can be opened, making it an appealing feature for Conda.
“It’s reminiscent of a Mediterranean town, exactly as it should be,” he said.
And opening a restaurant in Oconomowoc is significant because it’s the first place Konda called home since immigrating to the U.S. from Greece 15 years ago.
“Now I’m back in the same place,” he said. “It’s a beautiful place. The potential is always there. And with all the recent growth, it’s time to get back there.”
In the warmer months, Konda plans to include a large patio with an outdoor bar at the rear of the building.
“I love this neighborhood and I love the people here,” he said. “This place is very personal to me. I’m not a regular guy opening a restaurant.”
