NORTHAMPTON, MA / ACCESSWIRE / August 28, 2024 / Sands China has a long-standing commitment to promoting local businesses, exemplified by its annual Sands Shopping Carnival, which provides a free platform for Macao businesses, including small and medium-sized enterprises and Sands retailers, to showcase their products and services to the local community.
The fifth Sands Shopping Carnival, held from 18 to 21 July at Cotai Expo, The Venetian Macao, was another huge success this year, attracting a record number of visitors of 120,000, the highest since the event’s inception. Over the course of four days, visitors enjoyed a wide range of shopping opportunities, performances and activities for all ages.
Sands Shopping Carnival is Macau’s biggest sales event, introduced by Sands China in 2020 to boost business recovery during the pandemic.
The 2024 Sands Shopping Carnival will feature more than 580 booths, including 325 for small and medium-sized enterprises, setting a new record for the event. Nine exhibition zones will showcase Sands retail stores, home products, parenting and family products and services, gourmet food and wine, food court, green living products, Macao cultural and creative products, play and fun activities, Macao specialty products and souvenirs, etc.
Family entertainment is a feature of the Sands Shopping Carnival and this year saw the return of the popular BOC Smart Kids Presents: Little Master Chef Workshop, a food preparation and decoration activity led by Sands China’s food and beverage team. More than 530 kids and parents prepared tacos, spring rolls, sushi and more. Two new additions to the event line-up, Bank of Communications Presents – Rising Stars: 2024 Kids Talent Showdown and ICBC ePay Presents: National Essence: Hanfu Styling Competition, attracted participants from across the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, adding great entertainment to the carnival.
As in past Carnivals, Sands China integrated community service organizations throughout the four-day event. Four social enterprises offering vocational training to customers sold food and beverages at Carnival’s food court; Tung Sin Tong, Macau’s oldest charity organization, provided herbal tea and soup packs in the Gourmet Food & Wine Zone; and 10 community organizations displayed their products and services at the Macau Cultural Creative Zone.
Participation in the Sands Shopping Carnival has raised the profile of community service organizations and created employment opportunities for those they serve.
Sands Cares Ambassadors, a team member volunteer group from Sands China, accompanied beneficiaries from community service organizations to experience the event’s attractions, including taking clients of Caritas Macau Fountain of Love and Joy Integrated Family Service Centre to go-karting and gaming booths. The ambassadors also helped parents and children from Macau Child Development Association participate in the BOC Smart Kids Presents: Little Master Chef Workshop.
Similar to last year’s Carnival, Sands China offered members of Macau Special Olympics a unique opportunity to play the roles of news reporters and editors, conducting interviews, taking photos, shooting videos, writing, editing and producing news reports on the Carnival.
The Sands Shopping Carnival also promoted Sands’ environmental efforts, which were spearheaded by the Sands ECO360 team at the event. Sands Cares Accelerator members Green Future and Sands ECO360 Ambassadors demonstrated effective ways for exhibitors to recycle cardboard, plastic and metal. Additionally, visitors who shopped from local businesses at the carnival received complimentary items such as used laundry baskets and weighing scales.
“Over the past five years, we have maintained strong partnerships with the Macau SAR Government, the Macau Chamber of Commerce and other support organizations, and provided unremitting support to SMEs through the Sands Shopping Carnival,” said Dr. Wilfred Wong, Executive Vice Chairman of Sands China. “This year also marks Sands Macao’s landmark 20th anniversary. As a long-standing pillar of Macau’s business community, we have deep ties with the local community. Our commitment to supporting local SMEs is unwavering, and we embrace the philosophy of growing alongside them.”
The 2024 Sands Shopping Carnival supports the Macao SAR Government’s economic recovery efforts. Co-organizer with Sands China is the Macao Chamber of Commerce, with the full support of the Economic and Technological Development Board, Macao Government Tourism Office and Macao Commerce and Investment Promotion Association. The Carnival was sponsored by Bank of Macau, Industrial and Commercial Bank of Macau, Bank of Communications Macau Branch and BNU.
