Smart rings offer an opportunity to free your wrist from bulky and gaudy smartwatches and are becoming a more fashionable alternative to wearable technology. While the ring itself can be considered a fashion item, i.e. a piece of jewelry, smart rings like the Samsung Galaxy Ring opt for a more discreet and minimalist design. The idea is that these devices will be unobtrusive and do their job in the background while you wear a more luxurious bracelet or watch on your wrist. Still, the tech giant is trying to build a bridge with the fashion industry, which has resulted in one of the strangest mashups between the two worlds: luxury pajamas inspired by smart rings.
Designer: Samsung
This isn’t the first time the tech industry has tried to get its presence and products in the fashion world. From “accessories” like the foldable Honor V handbag to quirky things like Microsoft’s annual tacky sweaters, there are plenty of examples of phones and gadgets trying to look chic in some way. Smartwatches are supposed to be fashionable in their own right, and luxury brands have tried to tap into this emerging market before.
But this collaboration between Samsung and renowned luxury fashion designer LaQuan Smith, while unusual, is thankfully less flashy than his previous work. The fashion doesn’t flaunt a Galaxy ring, but it doesn’t make the relationship between the two less obvious. Next month at New York Fashion Week, LaQuan Smith will show his Spring/Summer 2025 collection, which includes his Lucid Dream line of luxury sleepwear inspired by Samsung’s latest luxury wearables.
The connection between these two completely unrelated things is admittedly difficult to immediately discern, and the explanation is a bit far-fetched. In short, this fashionable two-piece pajama can be worn not only in bed, but also during the day, transitioning from sleepwear to daywear without taking anything off. Samsung says this reflects the 24/7 usability of the Galaxy Ring, which doesn’t need to be taken off except to charge after a few days.
Of course, LaQuan Smith himself wears the Galaxy Ring all day, including while sleeping, the press release states. According to the designer, sleep is important not only for health but also for creativity, and many of the pieces he designs while awake are inspired by the dreams he has while sleeping. Whether you can immediately picture Galaxy Ring-inspired pajamas is up to you, but those who want this limited edition fashion item will have to wait to see when and where Samsung sells it after the event.
