Olave, a 2022 first-round pick out of Ohio State, has two 1,000-yard seasons in his first two seasons but has yet to play a full season due to a history of concussions. His latest concussion was the fourth confirmed in his career, and 2024 marks the first time he has suffered two concussions in a single season.
Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was placed on injured reserve with a concussion earlier this season, missing four games in five weeks before returning in Week 8. Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel took the same approach as Rizzi on the matter, focusing his concerns on Tagovailoa’s health. Not his availability.
Like Olave, Tagovailoa considered his concussion history before returning, but also refused to wear a Guardian cap during games.
Olabe’s departure will be another loss at receiver for the Saints, who also have Rashid Shahid out with an injury. Seed Wilson, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, rookie Mason Tipton and Jermaine Jackson filled the top four positions.
