SailGP announced on Wednesday the extension of its U.S. television agreement with CBS Sports, with a record 54 hours of broadcasting of the Rolex SailGP Championship scheduled on CBS Sports’ platforms during the 2025 season. The first race of the new agreement will be broadcast this Saturday when CBS broadcasts the Dubai Sail Grand Prix at 2pm ET.
Billed as “the world’s most exciting water race” and a downstream of hard-ground racing series such as F1, SailGP was founded by Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison and world champion yachtsman Sir Russell Coutts. Founded in 2019, it has since become one of the world’s leading sailing competitions. The sport’s growth now continues with a contract renewal with CBS Sports and the debut of the F50 foiling catamaran, the largest in the history of the sport.
“As appetite for the most exciting water racing continues to grow in the US market, we are thrilled to make history with Sail GP’s largest ever US broadcast deal,” Coutts said in a statement. “CBS Sports’ expanded commitment to the league, which saw record viewership last season, is further evidence that SailGP is one of the fastest growing sports and entertainment venues in the world. It will become.”
“SailGP is an intense, dynamic race set against some of the most beautiful scenery in the world,” said Greg Traeger, vice president of programming for CBS Sports. “Their fan base is growing and we look forward to coming back for another exciting season.”
The 2025 SailGP schedule features three race weekends in major markets in the US, including Los Angeles, San Francisco and New York. The series also includes races in the UK, Australia, Germany, Italy and other countries around the world.
