Southern Post, the long-awaited mixed-use development in downtown Roswell, celebrated its grand opening Thursday with a community block party.
The free event included greetings from new retailers, restaurant samples, giveaways and live music from the Steel Peach Band, according to a statement.
Southern Post is an approximately $100 million project located at 1055 Alpharetta Street near Canton Street.
The location is the former Roswell Plaza Shopping Center and the site of Southern Skillet, the anchor restaurant that operated for 30 years before closing in 2011.
Southern Post spans four acres and includes 95,000 square feet of open office space and 40,000 square feet of restaurant and retail space.
Businesses include Azotea Cantina Mexican Restaurant, Silla Del Toro Tapas Restaurant, Bey Mediterranean Kitchen and Bar, Belux Coffee Roasters, Da Vinci’s Donuts, Amorino Gelato, BodyRokn Pilates Studio and Cavina Wellness.
Southern Post has so far housed 100 people at Chandler Residences, a combination of luxury apartments and townhomes, according to a statement.
Virginia-based developer Armada Hofler developed the project, which was delayed due to the pandemic.
Chelsea Forrest, vice president of corporate communications and investor relations for Armada Hoffler, said: “We have carefully assembled a mix of primarily local retail, restaurant, and high-end office tenants to form an extension of downtown Roswell and a new gathering place for the area. We are proud of this milestone. We look forward to sharing and building long-term connections with our residents, tenants and neighbors.”
Another project would see a Chambray hotel built adjacent to the Southern Post. Indigo Road Hospitality Group will manage the $30 million Hyatt Collection boutique hotel, scheduled to open in 2025, according to the hospitality group’s website.
