Rochester mayoral candidate and city council member Mary Lupien interacted with Vice President J.D. Vance at the Capitol City Conference held in Washington, DC on Monday.
Lupien interrupted Vance’s speech after talking about immigration.
“You see a very consistent relationship between a huge increase in immigration and a huge increase in housing prices, and we have to be honest about that,” Vance said.
Lupien then cried out during his speech.
“We’re not immigrants, we’re competing with businesses. Please give us the money back,” she said.
After a few breaks during the speech, Vance responded to Lupien.
“Of course you can say you’re going to oppose some of our policies. That’s fine,” Vance said. “Come and let us know when you don’t agree to our policy, and we’ll have a conversation about it. Don’t shout it in front of maybe 2,000 people. I can’t even hear what you’re saying.”
Lupien sent a response after his speech, saying:
“As Rochesters struggle with the threat of rent and evacuation, politicians like JD Vance want to deflect us by denounceing the most vulnerable.”
