Rio Jiu Jitsu joined the Hillside Village Shopping Center earlier this summer in June. The training facility is locally founded and owned by Rafael Lang and co-founders Noah Martin, Devin O’Dell and Austin Torrance.
Martin called Hillside Village a “growing, vibrant shopping center” that will provide a stable foundation for the community Rio wants to build.
“The real focus in Rio is supporting the next generation of athletes,” Martin says of the variety of training options available to kids, “focusing not only on the sporting aspect but also on the self-defense aspect.”
Rio Jiu Jitsu offers classes for children, men and women teaching movement, self-defense and fundamentals. Instructors range from purple and brown belt qualifications to various levels of black belts.
The training facility features a spring floor system, cold water plunge tub, towel service and sauna. Access to these amenities is tied to several different training plans and membership options, including all access plans and private lessons.
Though the Rio team has only been based in Lakewood for three months, they’re already looking to the future.
“We really hope that by combining all of our experiences we can create multiple locations without losing the core and identity of what makes Rio so special,” Martin said.
