Rio de Janeiro (AP) – As Rio de Janeiro Carnival Celebration kick off On Saturday, dozens of dogs dasted on superheroes, clowns and cartoon characters paraded with their owners at one of the city’s most beloved dog street parties.
About 100 dogs wagged their tails at samba music and socialized in what is called Brocao Street PartyAbout 300 people and their pets gathered near Bala da Tijuca on the west side of Rio.
“I think this is great. I’ve been around for many years,” said Priscilla dos Santos Silva, 42, a nurse. “It’s great to see this interaction between pets and family. It’s a lot of joy and good for everyone. It’s a different kind of carnival.”
Antonio Mariño, 71, said this year’s Brocao is paying even more respect for the dogs parading under Rio’s 30 Celsius (86 Fahrenheit) on Saturday morning. A supply station was opened and a regular parade through the streets was moved to prevent the pet’s gentle feet from burning.
“We don’t come out on the pavement It’s hot. Respect for our pets, we still remain under this wonderful shade,” Marigno said. “We have kids, the elderly and a lot of dogs here.”
The name Blocao is a mixture of “Bloco,” which means Carnival Street Party and the Portuguese word “Cao” or dog. It is one of the few events that challenged the city’s ban on street parties during the Covid-19 pandemic. Brazil It was one of the most difficult countries.
Street parties have been held for over 20 years.
