MINT HILL, N.C. — Foster children, veterans and emergency personnel with mental health issues are finding comfort through horses.
“Being able to interact with an animal this big and accomplish something with it really boosts your confidence and self-esteem,” said Mending Strides Ranch founder Maria Hodge.
Hodge says she learned about equine therapy more than 10 years ago after watching a segment on ABC News about it, which inspired her to become certified as an equine professional.
She rescued several horses and opened Mending Stride Ranch in Mint Hill in 2019. Since then, the ranch has helped more than 1,300 people. Click here for more information, including how to volunteer.
