On the first day of action at Nanjing 25 at the World Athletics Indoor Championships, there was a sense of Deja Vu.
Three gold medalists – 60m winner Jeremiah Az, triple jump champion Andy Dias Hernandez and Pentaslon gold medalist Sagavannien – stood on the second major podium this month, winning gold medals at the recent European indoor championship two weeks ago.
Two other winners of today, Shot has gathered champion Sarah Mitton and high jump Victor Wu Sang-Gyok the second world indoor title to win the previous edition.
Azu will cause a storm to 60m of gold

Two weeks after winning the European indoor 60m title, the UK’s Jeremiahs landed the world’s indoor gold at the same distance and did it with the exact same victory time of 6.49. Australia’s Lachlan Kennedy won silver at 6.50, while South Africa’s Red Herringbine won bronze at 6.54 and silver at 6.50.

Vanninen meets expectations with the Pentathlon Triumph
Like Az in the men’s 60m, Saga Vanninen was another European indoor champion to win global gold here in Nanjing. She won the Finnish Senior Combination Event title and became the first Finnish woman to win Pentathron Gold at 4821. Ireland’s Kate O’Connor won silver with 4742.

Mitton holds shot put crown

Canada’s Sarah Mitton defended her shot put title and won the competitive final with a 20.48m throw. She led for most of the finals thanks to her second effort at 20.36m. It was the best mark until she improved to 20.48m on the final throw. Jessica Silder took silver at 20.07m, one centimeter ahead of Chase Jackson. It was back in 1991 when all three medalists threw over 20 meters indoors around the world.

Diaz jumps over the world’s leading 17.80m and wins triple jump gold

Two weeks after taking European indoor gold, Andy Diaz Hernandez landed his first global title by winning a triple jump at 17.80m, breaking his own full Italian record. China’s Zhu Yaming has pleased home fans by world champion Hugues Fabrice Zango winning bronze at 17.15m and taking silver (17.33m).

Woo regains the world’s indoor high jump crown

Three years after taking gold in Belgrade, Wu Sang-Gyek won his second world indoor high jump title. The Korean was the only athlete to clear at 2.31m and did so in his first attempt. Defending champion and Olympic gold medalist Hamish Kerr finished second in the 228m, earning silver in the countback ahead of Jamaican Raymond Richards.
