GILBERTVILLE — Gladbrook-Rhinebeck used a two-point conversion try to push Don Bosco’s offense out of the end zone and deny the Dons the go-ahead point in Thursday’s eight-man state football playoff game. They won 34-33 after two overtimes.
The Rebels (10-1) had a chance to win with an extra-point kick at the end of the first overtime period, but the try narrowly missed the mark. Gladbrook-Rhinebeck, who was locked at 27-all, ultimately won.
Drew Eilers scored on a 9-yard touchdown run on second down, and Brayden Utter’s kick was well placed for a 34-27 lead. Don Bosco’s Kyler Knaack scored a 2-yard touchdown on fourth down, but the conversion run was stopped short by Eilers.
Eilers completed 17 of 29 passes for 189 yards and three touchdowns. He had a 6-yard score with Hudson Clark in the second quarter, a 21-yard touchdown with Michael Boyd, and a tying 14-yard touchdown with Trevor Mathern in the first overtime. Eilers also rushed 23 times for 112 yards and two TDs.
Kunark rushed 41 times for 193 yards and three TDs for Don Bosco (10-1), with another TD on a fumble recovery.
