MEDFORD, Ore. — Today’s rain forecast is just part of a rainy season that’s boosting business for some retailers and ruining business for others.
If you visit Lowe’s Home Center in Medford this week, you’ll see sump pumps for sale on pallets near the register.
Blackbird’s Ace Hardware said business is up because of the rain today.
“Rain in the valley and snow in the mountains is very good for us because bad weather is good for business,” said Medford Blackbird store manager Tyler Quitt. “Sales have increased dramatically compared to before.”
For example, “With our rain gear range, we typically order one season at a time. We sold it, reordered the rain gear, sold it, reordered it again, and now we have several rounders. and rain gear remains on display,” Quit said. “So it’s been good for business.”
Happy’s drive-thru car wash is temporarily closed after trapped rain damaged part of its superstructure. The new business opened four months ago in a building with four walls for signage on the roof. It appears to have also functioned as a swimming pool until the east wall turned into water.
Happy’s today sent a contractor to the site within 24 hours to determine whether the building, which appeared unharmed, can quickly reopen after rain caused spray on the outside of the building.
This winter’s wet weather has created a need for more than just rain gear and sump pumps.
