Qatar Airways Offers Unparalleled Luxury with Caviar and Salmon in Business Class—The Ultimate Upgrade?

Qatar Airways already boasts one of the best, if not the best, business class in the world, with QSuites seats, great food and amenities, and excellent service.
The airline was the first to install doors on its business class suites, and while its QSuite product, which allows you to remove the walls to turn two seats into a double bed or the four middle seats into a family room, remains one of the top business class seats, the airline is introducing improvements to the product.
The soft offerings are equally impressive: while aboard the Airbus A380, for example, I walked from first class to the business class bar and back for a glass of Krug champagne.
Now, the airline appears to be taking its soft goods a step further, teasing the arrival of caviar and salmon in business class in a story on its Instagram account.
Look forward to something that will enhance your onboard dining experience. What will enhance your Qsuite experience?
One Mile at a Time took notice, suggesting that “caviar and Barrick Salmon could soon be available, similar to what airlines offer in first class on long-haul flights (Airbus A380s or select Boeing 777s).”
Apparently the salmon was served with caviar, so what’s hidden in the photo is clearly caviar.
I was first introduced to Tsar Nikolai caviar and balik salmon 14 years ago in first class on Cathay Pacific, which, if I remember correctly, was scaled down to just caviar in 2014.
The quality of the caviar and salmon served in business class is unknown. The budget per passenger is definitely lower than in first class. Some “caviar” can be bought for under $4, but you can add a bunch of zeros. Tsar Nikolai Balik Salmon can easily cost $200 per pound, but Balik Salmon can be had for less than a quarter of that.
Lufthansa was once reported to be the world’s largest purchaser of caviar, based on its first-class in-flight service. Qatar Airways’ full caviar offering in long-haul business class would undoubtedly make them the world’s largest purchaser of caviar, regardless of quality or price point. That said, it remains to be seen whether this will be a permanent addition or a one-off promotion.
