Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are adamant that they will remain in their California mansion and are prepared to contest any attempt to contest their deportation with US President-elect Donald Trump.
According to sources, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have established strong roots in California and intend to maintain residence there despite possible deportation from the United States, the Daily Express reported.
A source said: “[The Sussexes]have no plans to move from the United States.”
Another source confirmed: “Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan feel like home in California and have no intention of leaving without a fight.”
“They have a very good legal team and a lot of support to help them stay in the United States.”
Prince Harry, 40, is currently facing legal scrutiny over his US immigration status.
His admission in his autobiography, Spare, to past drug use including cocaine, cannabis and psychedelic mushrooms could affect his visa status.
Conservative group the Heritage Foundation has requested access to Prince Harry’s visa documents, suggesting his past drug use should have prevented him from entering the United States.
A recent judicial decision has kept Prince Harry’s visa application confidential, but that could change under President Donald Trump.
The 78-year-old president-elect suggested earlier this year that he might consider deporting Prince Harry over visa-related concerns.
“I will not protect him. He betrayed the Queen. That will not be tolerated. He will stand alone,” Trump declared at the Conservative Political Action Conference in February.
Sources say Trump’s recent victory has caused concern in Sussex, given his previous statements about expelling Prince Harry from the United States.
A source said: “Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan are not upset by President Trump’s comments because they believe they did everything right.”
“Meghan is a US citizen and Archie has just started a new school, so leaving the place he calls home is not an option.”
Recent reports suggest that despite being happy in California, the couple have bought a £3.6 million holiday home in Portugal, close to Princess Eugenie’s summer home.
