New Delhi:
Former British Prime Minister David Cameron, speaking at the NDTV World Summit today, said India can play a key role in curtailing the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine.
“India has the credibility to mediate the war in Ukraine,” Prime Minister David Cameron said at the NDTV World Summit.
More than two and a half years after the war began, the conflict between Russia and Ukraine shows no signs of progress in ceasefire negotiations.
“India may be in a position to mediate, but we must ensure that Russian President Vladimir Putin is not allowed to seize territory by force,” Cameron added.
President Putin on Friday said it was difficult to pinpoint when the long-running war in Ukraine would end, but he appreciated Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s concerns about the situation and insisted his country would win.
Russia and Ukraine both deny targeting civilians in the two-and-a-half year war that Russia has launched with an all-out invasion of its smaller neighbor.
Days before the 16th BRICS summit to be hosted by Moscow, President Putin criticized Prime Minister Modi’s clarification on the grouping, saying he had “appropriately” pointed out that the Indian leader was “not anti-Western but non-Western”. I supported it.
He also clarified that the grouping, which has expanded from its original five member states to include five more, should not be considered a “bloc organization.”
Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to visit Kazan to attend the BRICS summit to be held on October 22 and 23.
