A monkey wearing a pink tutu escaped from a house in Missouri and was captured just before a winter storm hit the state.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office called the primate’s arrest “banana” in a Facebook post.
The spider monkey was discovered Friday afternoon at the intersection of two highways near the town of Otto, just south of the St. Louis area. The monkey was staying at a nearby house, but managed to open the door and get out.
The sheriff’s office said the miniature monkey was returned to its caretaker after “careful negotiation and some coaxing.” A photo posted on the sheriff’s office’s Facebook page shows the deputy kneeling on the ground before a monkey wearing a tutu approaches and grabs his hand.
The sheriff’s office said this is a great example of how officers “must be ready to handle whatever comes their way on the job.”
The timing was fortuitous. A winter storm hit the region Saturday with snow and ice, closing roads and causing temperatures to plummet.
