To raise funds for his campaign, Donald Trump has released a series of $100 commemorative coins, along with Trump sneakers, a Trump Bible, a Trump Trump card, a Trump NFT and a scrap of the suit he was wearing when he was arrested in Georgia last year.
The latest addition to Trump’s world of entrepreneurship, which four bankruptcies and a recent financial fraud conviction are only beginning to prove, is a photograph of the White House bearing the former president’s face in profile and the words “In God We Trust.”
The “1 oz 0.999% silver medal” goes on sale Wednesday. Trump wrote on Truth Social on Saturday that the coin is “the only official coin I designed and proudly minted in the United States of America.”
He also shared a video, saying, “This beautiful limited edition coin commemorates our movement, our fight for freedom and prosperity, and our America First principles — we will always put America first.”
“This is not just a collector’s item, it’s a testament to the resilience and strength of the American people, the American patriots that we all love so dearly,” he said.
Trump needs money. His campaign raised only a third of what Democratic rival Kamala Harris did in August, and Harris has more cash on hand going into the final weeks of the 2024 campaign. But the funding disparity is not decisive: Hillary Clinton had an enviable advertising advantage in 2016 and still lost.
Ahead of the coin’s release, the Harris campaign has released a number of similar campaign merchandise, including lawn signs, T-shirts and mugs.
Political merchandise naturally caters to the candidate’s market — there’s no shortage of merchandise for Harris’ “childless, cat-loving woman” — not necessarily endorsed by her campaign — but Trump, with practice, inevitably goes further. Items in the Trump Store include beach balls, flip-flops, Bibles, mugs and dog collars.
In March, President Trump released the God Bless the USA Bibles with country musician Lee Greenwood ahead of Easter. “Happy Holy Week! Let’s pray again for America. As we mark Good Friday and Easter, I urge you to pick up a copy of the God Bless The USA Bible,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
Two months earlier, Trump had released a gold “Never Surrender” sneaker for $399, aimed at “go-getters who don’t know the word give up.” Trump also rushed out a book called “Save America” shortly after narrowly escaping assassination in July.
The cover features one of the most striking images to emerge from a recent presidential election — a bloodied Trump with his fist raised, telling his supporters to “fight” — and is also available on a $299 pair of sneakers.
