Donald Trump has expressed his hatred for the pop star after she endorsed Kamala Harris in November’s presidential election.
The former president and Republican candidate posted on his Truth Social platform on Sunday, “I hate Taylor Swift!”
Swift had announced her endorsement of Harris and running mate Tim Walz five days earlier, shortly after Harris debated Trump.
“I will be voting for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz for President in 2024,” the 34-year-old singer wrote in an Instagram post, adding, “I believe she is a stable and talented leader. I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if led with calm instead of chaos.”
Liz Cheney, a former congresswoman and frequent political opponent of President Trump, quoted the title of a Swift song and wrote to X, “Says the tiniest man in history,” summing up a typical response to Sunday’s post.
Meanwhile, Swift encouraged fans to vote when she accepted the Video of the Year award at the MTV Video Music Awards ceremony in Elmont, New York on Wednesday night.
“If you’re over 18, please register to vote in this very important election – the presidential election,” she said.
Though Trump now says he dislikes Swift, it wasn’t long ago that he coveted her support: In August, Trump posted an AI-generated image suggesting that Swift had supported him for president.
One photo showed Swift dressed as Uncle Sam with the words, “Taylor wants you to vote for Donald Trump.”
The former president also posted a deepfake to his Truth Social Account of a young woman wearing a “Swifties for Trump” T-shirt, writing, “I accept!”
Swift said Trump’s posts influenced her decision to support him.
“It really brought home my fears about AI and the dangers of spreading misinformation,” she wrote on Instagram, “and has led me to the conclusion that, as a voter, I need to be very transparent about my actual plans for this election.”
